POLICE DO DAMAGE CONTROL IN PALMER CASE
+ BY ALEXA WEBB ++ April 4th, 2009
The latest turn in the Amanda Palmer case has police doing damage control with the press. Officials thought they had made progress in the Palmer case upon discovering the body of the 32-year-old singer missing since August. But the events of Thursday morning have caused setbacks no one could have imagined.

When police attempted to remove the body from the crime scene, Palmer was discovered missing. No one is sure how this happened, as several officers and fire department officials were on-hand. "It's like she just vanished," said neighbor Alice Shaw-Kendall, who was present at the scene. "I heard all this noise outside and I'm a real light sleeper. I came over to see what was going on, and they said they'd found [Palmer's] body. I'd only been there a few minutes, and you could tell something was wrong."
Another neighbor reported that the area was surrounded by law enforcement during the incident. "I have no idea how anyone would have removed a dead body from right in the middle of what had to be twenty cops," said Sean Marshall.
Internal questioning is expected to begin immediately to determine if someone inside the police force is responsible, and police are doing their best to address public concerns.
"It doesn't matter," says Beth Hommel, who was close to Palmer. "It wasn't her body." When pressed for more information, the distressed former assistant only said, "I just know. It couldn't have been her."
Police are certain they correctly identified Palmer, but are keeping some details of the case to themselves. An anonymous source reveals however, that local officials are perplexed and troubled by this latest turn of events.
