SINGER AMANDA PALMER DISAPPEARS
+ BY ALEXA WEBB ++ September 5th, 2008

Three weeks ago, performer Amanda Palmer left her apartment in the South End of Boston and seemingly walked off the face of the globe. No one has seen or heard from her since. The police investigation is ongoing, although leads are few and no suspects have been identified-- if there has even been a crime committed at all.

Palmer, 32, recently finished a solo mini-tour, during which she promoted her new album, the darkly (and perhaps presciently) titled "Who Killed Amanda Palmer." She was set to embark upon a world tour in support of the album on September 27th. The rock clubs and concert halls may stay dark, however, if Amanda is not found.

The official story on Palmer's disappearance is threadbare at best. On August 18th, Palmer placed a phone call to a friend, radio station owner Jack Fox. Fox says Palmer told him of her plans to go to Acton for several days alone. He says she sounded excited and upbeat. As far as the police have been able to surmise, this was the last time anyone heard from Palmer.

Nine days later, on August 27th at approximately 7:20pm, Palmer's assistant Beth Hommel placed a call to the local authorities from the house in Acton. What police discovered when they arrived at the scene has been the subject of debate and speculation ever since.

Hommel, 26, claims to have arrived at the scene fifteen minutes before calling the authorities. She reports finding the front door unlocked and open, but the house empty. Hommel says she then proceeded to the second floor of the house where she found signs of a struggle and notable amounts of blood. Upon closer inspection, police discovered a smashed second-story window, as well as a broken chair. Torn clothing that may be Palmer's was also found at the scene.

Hommel was not available for comment.

"We have little information to release at this time," says Officer Roland Hollister. "We are diligently searching for Amanda and have no reason to believe she is not alive." He urges the local communities to report any sightings of Palmer, or any information that may lead to her whereabouts.
