ALEXA JOINS THE BANDWAGON: EARTH DAY EVERY DAY
+ BY ALEXA WEBB ++ September 1st, 2008
I don't normally write personal articles, but a recent turn of events demands that I bend the rules a little bit. I've recently had a conversion of sorts. No, I didn't find God. I found my 2008 Prius.

I've usually overlooked matters of the environment in favor of more personal stories, but recently, between the polar ice caps melting and the ongoing oil crisis, the idea of caring for our planet has struck a chord with me. For these reasons (not to mention the prices of gas!) I am now the proud owner of a hybrid car. I can't extol the virtues of a hybrid enough. The government gives you tax breaks, and the highways give you carpool lane privileges. Best of all, you know you're doing your bit to save the planet.
A hybrid isn't enough, of course. But between determinedly setting up new recycle bins at my apartment in New York and going out of my way to shop conscientiously at Whole Foods, I've decided every little bit counts.
This is my appeal. I care. I want you to care too. Start reading Treehugger. Start reading Ecogeek. Start finding communities in which you can learn how to make a difference. Together, we can become better people, and make our world a better place.
